World Environment Day discussion
You are cordially invited to join us on Tuesday, 4 June, to mark the World Environment Day during a discussion about environmental campaigns across the divide and building coalitions.
4 June, Tuesday 17:30-20:30 - Home for Cooperation and online
We are thrilled to invite you to an interactive discussion at the Home for Cooperation Conference Room on environmental campaigns across the island with activists and civil society representatives, who are involved in such campaigns. Joint concerns about the consequences of human activities to our common environment mobilises organisations, activists and the public to form coalitions to address imminent environmental threats. Acting together in the urgency of climate change, desertification, land erosion or abuse, and lack of respect to biodiversity, is additionally challenging and important in the face of conflict, like in the island of Cyprus.
During the event, notable and diverse environmental campaigns, on coastline development and biodiversity, will be presented to kick off the discussion, followed by an interactive session on how intercommunal coalitions on environmental issues can be build. Participants will also have the opportunity to meet and connect with each to discuss joint actions for our common future.
The discussion will take place in two parts and will be followed by a reception afterwards.
Part One: Presentations of environmental campaigns from:
Feriha Tel from Green Action Group, on coastline protection
Klitos Papastylianou from Terra Cypria, on the protection of Akamas
Andrea Rutigliano from Committee Against Bird Slaughter, on bird trapping
Eleni Angastiniotou from Visual Voices, on artists interventions for the protection of the coastlines
Part Two: Facilitated discussion among experts, activists and the public on how coalitions on the environment can be strengthened, focusing on the challenges and opportunities activists are facing.
Part Three: Reception
